Hey, I’m Running Bear Hernandez—most people just call me Bear. If you couldn’t tell, I’m a fitness coach, trainer, blah blah blah. Basically, I help people get stronger, move better, and feel more confident in the gym with my ever-growing knowledge 🤓.
The Journey So Far
I served five years in the Marine Corps, spent 4.5 years at BMW of San Antonio, and in 2021, I decided to launch Remain Brazen LLC. Somewhere along the way, I also became a father to three gremlins (pains in the ass, but loves of my life).
Funny enough, health and fitness weren’t always my passion. It kind of grew on me—probably because I saw so many family members dealing with preventable health issues, medications, and hospital visits. I didn’t want that to be my future, and I damn sure didn’t want it to be theirs either.
From Violin Strings to Heavy Lifts
As a kid, I was skinny and highly active, but you probably wouldn’t have guessed that I played the violin from fifth grade until sophomore year—until I transferred to a school with no orchestra. Fast forward, and my path led me to The College of Health Care Professions, where I earned my Rehab Therapy Technician certification. That’s when I finally decided to get my Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) credential through ISSA.
Could I have gone with NASM? Sure, but I wasn’t planning on working for a corporate gym, so I had the freedom to choose. For the record, NASM is the so-called “gold standard,” but let’s be real—it all depends on what gym you want to work for and the population you want to train.
Now, I keep one foot in the physical therapy rehab world while working toward my Bachelor’s in Exercise and Sports Science (Pre-Rehab), which is my stepping stone to a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Fitness is Life… But So is Balance
Fitness is a huge part of who I am, but don’t expect me to be that guy who only talks about macros and deadlifts. I’m not here to judge your food choices—I’m probably right there with you. Strict “clean eating?” Yeah, not me. I enjoy my hoodrat snacks (Big Red floats, Hot Cheetos/pickles, Hot Puffs/Baby Lucas), and if I’m hungry, I’m eating what I want—just staying mindful of macros.
Health Includes Laughter
If you know me, you know I’m a complete fool and will always go out of my way to make people laugh, even at my own expense. Because let’s be real—laughter is part of health too, and I embrace it.
That’s about all I’ve got for now.
Have the day you deserve. 🐻🤘🏽💚
